Julie Jeppsen is noted for her western landscapes and wildlife paintings. She grew up on a rural sheep farm in Utah where she developed a strong work ethic. Jeppsen was educated by the world around her. She grew up with wildlife, mountain ranges, round-ups, trail rides, and rodeos, all of which have provided volumes of ideas and materials for her oil paintings.
Representational Bronze, a chance observation, a dynamic moment Influenced by Camille Claudel, a 19th Century French Figurative sculptor and by Rembrandt Bugatti, a 19th Century Italian Animal sculptor, my work focuses on impressions of both animal and human forms. I like to call my work narrative portraiture. This is because my work is always of an individual, a personality, whether it comes in a human or animal form. Capturing the essence of a moment, and the ability to reveal a personality, an individual, a portrait, these are my goals.
These scenic landscapes depict the forests, mountains, wildlife and wildflowers of the Southern Appalachian Mountains. I have concentrated my subject matter on the beautiful rain forest region of Western North Carolina, near the areas called Big Ridge and Slatten Creek. My recent work has evolved into displaying wildflowers and forest scenes in an idealized, and often allegorical, environment. The source material I use for these collages include found items from nature, textured papers, painted papers and exotic patterned papers that have been cut up, layered, and adhered with acrylic medium. Often, ten or more layers of material are used to create a single work. The result is a "painting" with a distinct, three-dimensional effect.
After only 3 years of painting full time, Broderick has already won 2 national competitions. The 2009 Colorado Habitat Stamp Artist and 2010 Idaho Ducks Unlimited Artist of the year. Totally self taught, he works in both acrylic and watercolor. His works are compared to the old classic styles of days gone by.
